Shalom and welcome!

Dear Congregants,

Greetings from Sullivan County, New York, home of Congregation Bikur Cholim B’Nai Israel.  We hope that you and your family are healthy and enjoying the summer.

We are grateful and look forward to this year’s upcoming High Holiday services for the Congregation’s 99th year, with even more exciting events and celebrations to come for the 100th anniversary next year.  Rabbi Elchanan Weinbach and his wife, Yocheved, have helped carry forward Bikur Cholim’s traditions with a modern approach, and we eagerly welcome their return.  The Weinbachs look forward to spending the holidays with the entire Congregation in our traditional style in shul and under the tent at our family’s nearby home.  As Rabbi Weinbach helped us to implement over the past two years, the Congregation’s welcomed changes to the services include:

  • Explanations of certain important prayers in English
  • Explaining the teachings of the Torah and the most important prayers in English
  • Encouraging greater involvement of women during the services
  • Teaching children and seeking their active participation in the services
  • Offering flexible seating arrangements for men, women and kids to be together as desired

We look forward to being together again for the Holidays, to share traditions and to carve out new ones together.  The Congregation will conduct services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur 2025 (5786), including evening services (6:00 p.m.) on September 22nd and morning (9:00 a.m.) and evening services on September 23rd and 24th.  For Yom Kippur, we will hold Kol Nidre (6:00 p.m.) services on October 1st, and we will have morning services (9:00 a.m.) and conclude with the break-fast after sundown on Saturday, October 2nd.

We thank you for your continued involvement and ongoing support over the years.  We hope that you and your family are looking forward to this year’s holidays as much as we are.

Our family wishes yours L’Shana Tova V’Metuka - a happy and sweet New Year.  Let’s keep the tradition alive!

Sincerely,
